Make Your Bed!

Who needs Spring cleaning? We love doing a massive cleaning in the dead of winter, when you're stuck indoors—and stuck picking up after all the holiday parties and presents and paper—anyway. On our to-do list: saying goodbye to magazine stashes we've had for almost a decade. (How does that happen?!?) Now that our beloved Lucky magazine is back in print, it was time to let the old ones go. But not without one more read-through (a totally worthwhile way to spend a couple of nights, by the way), during which we rediscovered some forgotten gems, such as this one from April 2006: "The World's Comfiest Bed."

It's a step-by-step guide on how to make your bed à la a Four Seasons Hotel. The tip that's changed our lives: don't tuck your top sheet! Fold it into a 6" "Z" instead. Try it, you'll see.

Sarajo Frieden

I am a huge fan of L.A. artist Sarajo Frieden. I actually framed the "Maiden Voyage" pillowcases she did for Third Drawer Down (one of my go-to sites for rad gifts), and they're hung in my daughter's bedroom. We never get tired of gazing up at them. So it kind of pains me that she's designed some gorgeous new bedding not for us but for Land of Nod—but that's only because I'm jealous. It is the sweetest bedding. Not organic, but still, I love it.

Blue Flock sheets with Teal Confetti cases and quilt...heavenly, no?

I met Sheila in Seattle this week for a quick photo shoot with the very talented and very patient Curt Doughty. (Thanks again, Curt!) When we started Plover, the idea was to create amazing prints in organics...at the time, all that was out there in organic cotton was neutrals. (Which is still kind of true, although less and less so every year.) But one thing we've learned over time is that there is a place for a clean white bed (just check out this post from Marais USA), or at least a simpler bed. (Sorry, plain white beds still remind me too much of hotels! Also, with two kids: stains.) So we were inspired to show Plover's linens in a new light. After all, the reverse side of all our bold prints is a more quiet one. We wanted to give those prints the spotlight for once. Here's some outtakes...real photos to come soon!
